The Story of Simplyfilm.net

It's hard to believe, but all of this came from the mind of one man.  After a long night of too much Absinthe and repeated viewings of a Chinese pirated copy of Meatballs 4, the idea for a kick ass site where literate movie reviews could be posted was born.

Mission Statement

We hate mission statements!  But we are all about creed's and manifesto's.  Until we can think of something better, this is what Simplyfilm is all about.

Simplyfilm is dedicated to providing entertaining, relevant, timely and literate film reviews and film related articles without bias or influence.

We will review any film we have access to.  Blockbusters, Indies, Documentaries, even romantic comedies with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.  The net is full of too many fanboys and industry puppets.  In the end, you want to know whether it's worth your $9 plus refreshments to see a flick, and Simplyfilm will let you know, hopefully in a way that's also a great read.  We will laugh together, we will cry together but I guarantee we will make it through this crazy mixed up life we live.

The Genesis

Started by Greg Wilson in 2005, Simplyfilm.net was inspired by his disappointment in the never ending flow of awful writing on the internet about his first love--the movies.  Starting with incessant and
unsolicited e-mails to anyone unfortunate enough to have provided him their e-mail address, Greg began sending his film reviews to others.

Eventually, it became clear that good writing and film reviews on the internet did not have to be complete strangers.  In fact, it is possible and necessary to produce culturally relevant, poignant work about the yin and yang of a particular film.
